Observers from five countries accredited for the Kurultai elections

Tengrinews.kz — The number of international observers for the Kurultai elections continues to grow. The Central Election Commission has accredited 10 more representatives from foreign states.

According to Mukhtar Yerman, Deputy Chairman of the CEC, the Central Election Commission received accreditation documents on July 23 for an additional 10 observers from five foreign countries and one international organization.

These include four representatives from Moldova, including the chair of that country’s CEC; one representative from the International Parliamentarians Congress (IPC); two observers from Albania; the Ambassador of Kuwait to Kazakhstan; and one representative each from Armenia and Palestine.

Since July 1, Kazakhstan has country's new Constitution came into effect. Following this, the Mazhilis and Senate ceased operations, and the deputies' mandates ended. Now, instead of a bicameral Parliament, a new legislative body—the Kurultai—will operate in the country.

The first elections for Kurultai deputies will be held on August 23. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed the corresponding decree. Participating in the elections are seven political parties.
