Tokayev awarded the President of the International Basketball Federation
Tengrinews.kz — President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), with reference to Akorda.
The meeting between Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani took place at the Palace of Independence. During the discussion, the President of Kazakhstan highly commended the support FIBA provides to domestic basketball and thanked Saud Ali Al Thani for attending a meeting of the National Basketball Federation of Kazakhstan.
The Head of State noted that domestic basketball celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and continues to be among the most popular team sports, enjoying growing interest among children and youth.
He also told his guest that Kazakhstan has produced outstanding basketball players who have successfully competed at the international level, including at World Championships and the Olympic Games.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev informed Saud Ali Al Thani about the growing popularity of the promising 3x3 basketball format in the country. During the meeting, special attention was paid to the development of grassroots and professional basketball, the training of athletic reserves, and the implementation of joint projects.
In turn, the President of the International Basketball Federation expressed his sincere gratitude to the Head of State for supporting basketball in Kazakhstan and shared FIBA's plans for the further popularization of the sport.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also awarded Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani the Order of "Dostyk" II degree for his contribution to the development of basketball in Kazakhstan.
