As a reminder, in May this year Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that in the modern world, control over computing capacity, data and communication channels determines the level of independence of states.
“For Kazakhstan, it is fundamentally important to create its own infrastructure base capable of supporting the development of artificial intelligence and cloud services. That is why the creation of a Data Center Valley is a priority project for us. This large-scale cluster will become a new driving force for our economic growth and provide businesses and science with access to computing resources. Reliable digital infrastructure must become a strategic asset of our country,” the President said at the second meeting of the Council for Artificial Intelligence Development.
At the time, he instructed the government to comprehensively work out the key parameters of the Data Center Valley project in accordance with international standards and the requirements of major industry players.
At the end of June, Kazakhstan unveiled details of the large-scale Data Center Valley project. The government noted that the data centers would be used to develop artificial intelligence, digital services and the new data economy. Kazakhstan therefore plans not only to rely on external computing capacity, but also to build its own infrastructure.
