Nearly 100 Kazakhstanis paid for jobs in England and became fraud victims
Tengrinews.kz – A Kokshetau resident has been convicted of fraud after promising to help people find jobs abroad. According to the court, 92 people fell victim to the scheme, with total losses amounting to around 70 million tenge.
The Kokshetau City Court considered a criminal case against an individual entrepreneur identified as citizen B. She was found guilty of large-scale fraud committed through deception and abuse of the trust of users of information systems and the Internet.
The court established that since 2024, the woman had offered services to help people prepare documents for employment abroad. On social media, she presented herself as a blogger and advertised her services.
According to the court, the woman signed overseas employment contracts with clients, promised to arrange visas and medical insurance, and discussed departure dates for England with them. She charged each client between 250,000 and one million tenge for her services.
After receiving the money, however, the woman failed to fulfill her obligations, avoided meetings and stopped answering phone calls, the court found.
A total of 92 people from Kokshetau, Astana, Karaganda and several regions of Kazakhstan were recognized as victims. Their combined losses amounted to around 70 million tenge.
The court said the defendant’s guilt was established based on testimony from the victims, documents, bank statements and other evidence in the criminal case.
The woman was sentenced to six years and eight months in prison and banned for five years from engaging in activities involving the collection of money from individuals for commercial or other purposes.
However, because she has two young children in her care, the court deferred the prison sentence for one year.
The court also granted civil claims filed by 28 victims. They were awarded compensation for material damages ranging from 200,000 tenge to more than one million tenge each.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
