If his colleague Senator Juan Ponce Enrile was granted bail, Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Ejercito Estrada appealed to the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division that his own petition be granted too. After the court denied his petition for bail, Estrada, who has been detained at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, has a filed a motion for reconsideration that asked the tribunal to reverse its January 7 resolution that kept him under detention. In his motion for reconsideration, Estrada’s lawyers pointed out that “the issue of flight risk should be considered in determining whether or not the motion for bail should be granted.” “Under the foregoing backdrop, the issue on flight risk should not be considered academic.
