GABRIEL C. SINGSON / Photo courtesy of admu.edu.ph Gabriel C. Singson, governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) from 1993 to 1999, has passed away. Interment is scheduled on Friday. He had more than 40 years of experience in the banking industry and held several posts, including representing the country in the International Monetary Fund. Singson was the first governor of the BSP, which was created under the New Central Bank Act in 1993. The law also gave the Bangko Sentral fiscal and administrative autonomy which the old Central Bank did not have. He helped the Philippines survive the East Asian Financial Crisis in 1997. Singson was also the recipient of the 1998 Management Man of the Year conferred by the Management Association of the Philippines.
