Convicted ex-Armenian social security official released
A former head of the Armenian State Social Security Service has been released from jail after serving three out of the 12 years of his imprisonment over the embezzlement of state funds.
Vazgen Khachikyan, who was convicted on December 8, 2014, faced charges (along with other employees of the Service) over forging documentation to appropriate sums registered as pension for deceased citizens or pensioners no longer residing in Armenia.
An investigation revealed that the abuse of power led to the appropriation of 29 million Armenian Drams (over $60,000) payable the State Budget.
Speaking to Tert.am, Gor Ghlechyan, a spokesperson a press secretary for the Justice Ministry’s Department of Penitentiary Institutions, said Khachikyan was freed after fully serving his punishment.
