Kavanagh Defeats Mexico’s Moreno At UFC 238 In Mexico City

England’s Lone’er Kavanagh defeated Mexico’s Brandon Moreno by unanimous decision at Arena Ciudad de México in the main event of UFC Fight Night Mexico.

“The Assassin Baby” Moreno was a slight favorite to continue his path toward another championship opportunity.

Kavanagh came out determined to overpower Moreno from the opening round. By the second round, Kavanagh had executed his strategy effectively and landed several heavy punches on Moreno.

In the third round, Kavanagh targeted Moreno’s left leg, which appeared to be badly injured. Moreno found some breathing room and went on the offensive against Kavanagh. By the fourth round, Moreno looked stronger, landing solid combinations and attempting to take Kavanagh down.

In the fifth round, Moreno landed more frequent and consistent strikes, while Kavanagh focused on maintaining his distance.

The judges awarded the victory to Kavanagh with scores of 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47. Meanwhile, Moreno suffered his second consecutive defeat.

In the co-main event of the evening, Mexican-Ecuadorian Marlon Vera and Daniel Martinez fought cautiously in the opening round, avoiding significant exchanges. In the second round, Vera went on the offensive with kicks, while Martinez attempted to secure takedowns and control the action.

In the third round, Vera continued to land punches, but Martinez remained active and ultimately secured a unanimous decision victory, with all three judges scoring the bout 29-28.

In another bout, Bobby “King” Green defeated Mexico’s Daniel Zellhuber by technical knockout in the second round with a powerful left hook. Referee Herb Dean stepped in to stop the fight.
