First, the substrate was machined from NTPT carbon fiber, which consisted of multi-layer filaments obtained by separating carbon wires, and a new material, TPT quartz, designed and developed by Richard Mille in collaboration with North Thin Ply Technology (NTPT). Includes hundreds of layers of quartz wire stacked on each other. This fiber has extremely high strength and is very resistant to high temperatures. The TPT layer, which is about 45 microns thick at the high end, is inserted between the carbon nanotube layers through an automated positioning system that modifies the fiber orientation between each layer by 45 degrees.
