The Scenario Engine is a step towards a complete
Some of the targets it ends up giving you have to be tweaked, and are insane too. A recipient ask to get involved more and might text you. But if you agree, the game will let you either achieve 150+ yards receiving or 3 TDs.
Worse, I discovered the Scenario Engine to be entirely broken in some cases. In Maddens, I have enjoyed producing QBs that aren't instant starters. They get the starting job and work their way up or either sit for a year. I love to think that it makes for a more realistic experience. But it would appear that the game doesn't expect anyone doing so, and the Scenario Engine makes it impossible anyway. The engine thinks you're the starter anyway, even when you're the second string QB. Thus, even in the event that you've never carried to the field, your head coach will text you whining about underperformance. He'll set you are the backup. Following that, if you don't get picked up by a different team you are cut and forced to retire at the close of the season.
Tiburon have voiced their desire to update the engine with new scenarios as the season progresses, so there is some hope that the Scenario Engine could be enhanced as the game goes via its life-cycle. At present, there are a number of decent thoughts, and the prospect of something great is clearly there. It needs to be built upon and allow for scenarios, factors and playstyles. Scenarios for different positions and owners will need to be introduced at any stage.
The Scenario Engine is a step towards a complete, immersive Franchise Mode. But we can not escape the simple fact that Madden's offering is still so far behind other sports matches. There are so many things missing that should be contained; Create-a-Franchise, Stadium Builder, League History, Team and Player Records, Better Stat Tracking, Coaching Carousels, Customizable Contract Options, In-depth Scouting, Dedicated Retirement Page and Mock Drafts, for example.
It's particularly annoying when you consider that most of these features have been in previous versions of Madden and been eliminated through time. Franchise is in need of an overhaul, and has been for the previous four or five decades. But hey, at least the Pro Bowl is back? And then we reach Longshot, which can be goneand in its place is a new story. It is similar to its predecessor in that it's all about overcoming hardship and'making it' as a football player. Basically, it's one big cliché.
