11 Greatest Running Gags From Brooklyn Nine Nine
Presented by NBC
As all Brooklyn Nine Nine heads are already well aware, the 99th Precinct is headed to NBC and will premiere its sixth season at their new home, Thursday January 10th. In anticipation we look back upon the greatest running gags that we hope keep a'running for many seasons to come.
1."Title of your sex tape"
Piggybacking off of The Office and Michael Scott's affinity for "that's what she said", Jake Peralta continues the Michael Schur/NBC sitcom tradition of an immature man-child unable to help himself from calling out sexual innuendos. Man that was a mouthful. Title of your sex tape.
2. Boyle thinking shampooing a SO's hair is the most intimate thing you can do with them
Whether it's his love of food, Jake, or shampooing a woman's hair, Boyle is a man of his convictions and has no shame in voicing them. And listen, he's not even at Full Boyle.
3. Terry Loves Yogurt
We love Terry. And Terry loves a lot of things. Primarily yogurt. Also speaking in the third person. Terry loves loving Terry.
4. The annual Halloween Heist
Every year the 99th precinct holds their Halloween Heist to determine the Ultimate Detective/Genius. The item of interest ranges from Holt's medal of honor, Holt's watch, and a Championship Cummerbund. Or a belt, as normal people would call it.
5. Undercover straight Captain Holt
NBC
Undercover Holt is a flawless, undetectable straight. No gay man here. Would a gay man say things such as these?
6. Cool, cool, cool
Cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool cool
7. Jake and Judy
Impromptu songs are a staple of Samberg's Jake Peralta, and while you can find his never heard before never performed again ditties sprinkled throughout the show, a rare duet with the Pontiac Bandit here celebrates two great things about Brooklyn Nine Nine - off the cuff singing, and Jake and Judy's wonderful chemistry.
8. Topless Hitchcock
NBC
A simple Season 1 favorite - Hitchcock having his shirt off at times he shouldn't have his shirt off. Also here, we'd be criminals not to throw in a nice little best of Scully and Hitchcock montage. I just wouldn't be able to sleep at night.
9. Holt vs. Wuntch
Necessary viewing for your insult arsenal. You wouldn't want to run into your mortal enemy and have no ammo. Writing for these two's scenes must be an absolute blast. "I'd never thought I'd see you this high without a broom under you".
10. Boyle's poor choice of words
One of the many reasons we are in debt to Brooklyn Nine Nine is for giving us loving spoonfuls of the hilarious, no longer underappreciated Joe Lo Truglio. This character is so fun, and he is able to make funny jokes on the page even funnier with his puppy dog performance.
11. Die Hard References
NBC
Die Hard is so heavily woven into the fabric of Jake Peralta and Brooklyn Nine Nine that it is arguably its own character at this point, just as "New York is actually a character" in every New York movie according to film snobs. Yippee ki yay motherfudger.
Watch out for these gags and more during the season six premiere of Brooklyn Nine Nine Thursday, Jan. 10 at 9/8c only on NBC!
