Iowa is poised to play in a game with the lowest total in college football history (AGAIN!)
Iowa and Rutgers opened with a total of 28.5 at sportsbooks, which would be the lowest total in college football history.
Oddsmakers can’t set totals in Iowa college football games low enough.
Just last week, I wrote that Circa Sportsbook opened the Iowa-Northwestern game with a total of 29.5, which would’ve been the lowest college football total since 1995, when totals were regularly tracked. The game ended up with a total of 32, and stayed well UNDER as Iowa won a 10-7 game that hopefully you didn’t have to watch.
Several weeks ago, Minnesota beat Iowa 12-10 in a game that closed with a total of 30.5, which established the new lowest total in college football history.
On Saturday night, FanDuel Sportsbook opened Iowa’s next game against Rutgers with a total even lower at 28.5, which would — again — be the lowest total ever in a college football game. Circa Sportsbook also opened on Sunday afternoon with the total at 28.5, which was quickly bet up to 29.5.
Iowa is 7-2 on the season, but only 2-7 to the OVER, despite having seven of its games involving totals under 38.5 combined points. Iowa has surpassed 26 points just once — a 41-10 Week 3 win over Western Michigan — and the Hawkeyes have held opponents under 17 points in eight of their nine games.
What will Saturday’s matchup bring?
We’ll be keeping track of any movement on the total right here over the course of the week, as well as betting action, to see if this indeed sets the record as the lowest total in college football history.
