Late-season snow prompts winter weather advisory over the Cascades Thursday
Old Man Winter isn't through with the Cascades just yet. The National Weather Service out of Portland has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Cascades above 4,000 ft. that lasts through Friday night.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Old Man Winter isn't through with the Cascades just yet. The National Weather Service out of Portland has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Cascades above 4,000 ft. that lasts through Friday night.
Late-season snow isn't uncommon over Oregon and Washington's high mountain locations, but warmer-than-average temperatures have already started to melt snow in the last few weeks. This latest round of winter weather comes as skiers and snowboarders dread the end of the season.
Cooler-than-average temperatures will keep much of the Pacific Northwest cooler through the end of the month. Those cooler temperatures will help drop snow elevation levels down to 4,500' through the weekend and into next week. Ski resort base levels will likely increase by a few inches this week. Nearly 8-15" of snow is possible above 5,000' through midnight Friday, April 26.
Travel will likely be difficult over the Cascades through the weekend as very little warming is expected to melt snowy roads.
