ERCOT: New peak demand record set during recent arctic blast
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) said it set an unofficial peak demand record Tuesday during the recent arctic blast.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) said it set an unofficial peak demand record Tuesday during the recent arctic blast.
ERCOT said the demand reached 78,138 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday. The previous peak was 65,915 MW, set on Jan. 17, 2018.
Sunday and Monday also showed a high demand. ERCOT said Sunday’s demand was at 70,982 MW while Monday reached 76,340 MW.
According to ERCOT, one megawatt of electricity could power around 200 Texas homes during periods of peak demand.
