SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Sea Turtle Inc. is prepared to release nearly 1,000 sea turtles that were rescued this week during a winter freeze.
Over three consecutive days, staff and volunteers with Sea Turtle Inc. saved over 950 cold-stunned turtles who were impacted after water temperatures dropped below the threshold level.
This week marked the second largest cold-stun event recorded in Sea Turtle Inc's 46-year history.
“This has been such a challenging week after having to close our facility to the public and overflow into another facility, we are excited to celebrate the safe return of these beautiful
creatures to the water,” Wendy Knight, Chief Executive Officer of Sea Turtle Inc., said.
Sea Turtle Inc. will release 950 turtles into the water at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 19 at Cameron County Beach Access 4.
