AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A group that has been pushing to equip all local law enforcement patrol vehicles with bullet-resistant windshields held a demonstration Wednesday to showcase the durability of the glass.
Operation Safe Shield held a live demonstration of the ballistic glass that it's working to provide to law enforcement agencies.
OSS is a nonprofit that provides the glass and installation at no charge to the various law enforcement departments. The group said its goal was to convince the legislature to provide grant funding for all law enforcement across the state to have the glass installed.
"How much is an officer's life worth? That's what I tell people, what would you pay to protect that guy that's going to rush to your house and save your life? So to me, $9,000 in today's economy, that's not a lot of money," OSS President Clifford Dorn said.
OSS was established in 2021 and began fundraising in 2022. To date the group said it has raised $1.2 million to equip more than 100 vehicles across the seven counties of the Brazos Valley.
