AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, workers began to assemble the Pease Park troll, which is located in Central Austin.
The installation was created by Thomas Dambo, a world-leading recycle artist. It's expected to be about 18 feet tall, 15 feet wide and made from a water tower at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Dambo spoke about his vision for his art around the world and in the park as the building of the troll begins.
The full assembly is expected to be complete March 15, and Dambo is expected to introduce the Pease Park troll to the Austin community.
An event will be held following the completion of the build from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Kingsbury Commons, located at 1100 Kingsbury Street near Pease Park. There will be food, nonalcoholic beverages and music to celebrate, according to organizers.
