No. 15 Longhorns lose 8-run lead to Vanderbilt, drop 3rd straight game
It's the third consecutive loss for the Longhorns at Minute Maid Park over the weekend, but this one stings a little more considering they led 11-3 after four innings.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas couldn't hold a lead again in a 14-11 loss to No. 9 Vanderbilt in Houston on Sunday at the Astros Foundation College Classic.
It's the third consecutive loss for the Longhorns at Minute Maid Park over the weekend, but this one stings a little more considering they led 11-3 after four innings.
The Commodores scored nine runs combined in the fifth-eighth innings, including five in the seventh to take the lead. The big blow came on a Troy LaNeve bases-clearing triple with no outs to tie the game at 11-11, and then LeNeve came home for the go-ahead run on a Matthew Polk sacrifice fly.
It looked great early for the Longhorns after Porter Brown clubbed his second home run of the day in the fourth inning, a 2-run blast over the right field wall, to give the Longhorns a 10-3 lead. Freshman outfielder Will Gasparino followed that with a sacrifice fly to score Max Belyeu and the Longhorns led by nine. Brown's first homer came in the third inning, a solo shot over center field.

Kimble Schuessler and Jack O'Dowd also homered for the Longhorns. Texas hit nine home runs over the three games in Houston but also allowed 31 runs.
Jalin Flores had three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI for Texas. Both of Brown's hits were home runs and he finished with three RBIs while Schuessler had two hits and two RBIs. O'Dowd and Belyeu chipped in two hits each and Gasparino also hit a double.
Texas (7-4) doesn't get a break from its tough stretch in the schedule anytime soon. On Tuesday, the Longhorns host No. 7 Texas A&M, and then they hit the road for the Big 12 opening series in Lubbock against No. 18 Texas Tech starting Friday.
