AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Police arrested a man Saturday on felony drug possession charges with connections to an out-of-state dispensary, according to an affidavit obtained by KXAN.
According to the affidavit, Austin Police and the Texas Department of Public Safety were working a South-by-Southwest joint operation when they followed a driver leaving what the affidavit called a “pop-up market associated with illicit substances” that had been set up on Thompson Street in east Austin.
The APD officers and DPS agents and troopers followed Brandon Ross, 39, because the car's license plate was expired, officers saw him loading plastic totes into the trunk and they learned Ross had a probation violation warrant out of Tarrant County, the affidavit said.
The officers detained Ross at an apartment complex on Bluff Springs Road in southeast Austin.
Officers examined Ross’ car and said the two plastic totes inside trunk had “extensive amounts and varieties of THC infused products, many of which were in factory sealing bearing California dispensary logos.”
According to the affidavit, officers found the following in Ross’ car:
- 8.2 ounces of marijuana
- 4 bags of suspected psilocybin mushrooms
- 16 bottles of Cannabis Syrup
- 12 Trollo THC Peach Rings and 2 Chuckels Gummy Worms advertised to contain THC.
- 27 THC infused Chapstick containers
- Kache Bar Vape Cartidge
- Chuckels Buds marijuana
Ross was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of THC oil. Austin Police say he could face an additional charge for possession of the suspected psilocybin mushrooms.
Records show he was released from jail on Monday.
KXAN has reached out to Ross’ listed attorney for comment and will update when we hear back.
