AUSTIN (KXAN) — Despite some security concerns, a local elementary school began renovations. The campus said it was seeking to move away from its open-concept design.
The Austin Independent School District built Oak Hill Elementary in 1974, and now, with the approval of the 2022 bond, the campus said it would improve security while enhancing the learning environment.
“The 2022 Bond Program includes renovations to Oak Hill Elementary School's open-concept floor plan that will improve security and enhance the learning environment by fully enclosing spaces,” this district said.
The district held a construction kick-off celebration Tuesday for the project. The event was also used to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary.
Oak Hill's renovated spaces are anticipated to open to students in Fall 2025.
