Abbott, local agencies express sympathies on deadly school bus crash
After a deadly school bus crashed left two people dead near Mustang Ridge on Friday, state leaders and agencies expressed their sympathy on social media.
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- After a deadly school bus crash left two people dead near Mustang Ridge on Friday, state leaders and local agencies expressed their sympathy on social media.
One of the deaths was a child on the bus, and the other was a man from a vehicle traveling behind the bus, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Gov. Greg Abbott shared the following on social media:
"Cecilia and I are saddened to hear about this tragic incident, and we ask all Texans to join us in prayer for Tom Green Elementary students and families during this difficult time. I've spoken with Hays CISD Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright and offered the state's full support as they help their community through this tragedy. I thank the first responders and law enforcement officers who were on the scene immediately and continue to help their fellow Texans who were injured."
Sen. Ted Cruz also posted to social media, saying the crash was "utterly horrific."
"Heidi and I are praying for the families impacted by this terrible accident in Bastrop-- and we are praying for God's tender hands to heal the injured."
The Buda Police Department said it extends its "sincere condolences to the victims" and said it was sending "swift healing" to those injured in the crash.
The Bastrop Independent School District said while the accident did not involve its district buses, students or staff that their "hearts are with all of those impacted."
The Round Rock Independent School District said "our hearts go out to everyone in the @HaysCISD community," on social media. It said the district was keeping Hays CISD in its thoughts.
Austin ISD also posted to social media saying the district's heart was heavy and sending its deepest condolences to Hays CISD.
"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragic accident in Bastrop County. We stand in solidarity with the Hays CISD community during this difficult time," the social media post said.
