CapMetro cautions possible service delays during April eclipse
CapMetro is preparing for expected delays to service operations April 8 due to the total solar eclipse.
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- CapMetro is preparing for expected delays to service operations April 8 due to the total solar eclipse.
The transit authority shared the notice Tuesday, just under two weeks before the natural event. Transit officials said CapMetro Bus, Metro Access and Metro Pickup services are all likely to experience delays before, during and after the eclipse due to anticipated heavy traffic.
"We expect most of our service area near Austin to experience darkness for at least 2 minutes starting around 1:32 p.m. on April 8," the notice read in part. "To keep everyone safe, our operators can choose to pull over their vehicles during the minutes of total darkness."
Regular Metro Bus services are expected April 8, while CapMetro confirmed specialty Metro Rail service will be in effect heading to the Leander Station.
Those interested can watch the eclipse at CapMetro's viewing picnic, running from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Leander Station Park & Ride. That's located at 800 North U.S. Highway 183 in Leander.
