BRENHAM, Texas (FOX 44/KXAN) — On Tuesday, officials identified the victim who died after a man driving a stolen 18-wheeler crashed into a Texas Department of Public Safety building in Brenham last week. Five other people were injured.
That victim was identified as Bobby Huff, 78, according to DPS. He died after he was taken by a medical helicopter to CHI St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan.
According to DPS, two other people remain in critical but stable condition on Tuesday.
Bond had been set at $2 million for the man accused of driving the stolen 18-wheeler, 42-year-old Clenard K. Parker. While the Texas Rangers continued their investigation into the incident, he remained in the Washington County Jail on Tuesday.
Parker was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, one count of evading arrest or detention causing serious bodily injury and one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Parker himself had to be pulled from the wrecked cab of the truck after it struck the building. Authorities said he did not resist when he was taken into custody.
The 18-wheeler was rammed into the Drivers License office, where Parker was told the day before that he would not be eligible to renew his commercial drivers license. No reason was given to the media for the license not being renewed.
The crash left a gaping hole in the side of the building and littered the parking lot with debris.
A statement issued by DPS on Tuesday said the Brenham Drivers License Office will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time. Alternative offices are located in Bryan, Hempstead and Caldwell. Customers with scheduled appointments at the Brenham Office will be contacted by the DPS Drivers License Division.
