Sports Briefs: Bartram’s HR seals deal in COM win over Yuba
College of Marin freshman Derek Bartram homered to seal a 5-2 victory over host Yuba in Marysville on Thursday. Bartram, a Novato High grad, scored on an error to tie the game at a run each in the top of the fourth inning, before the Niners got the run back in the bottom half of the frame.
The Mariners (23-10, 12-2 BVC) scored twice in the sixth inning, as Matteo Mendoza crossed home plate to tie the game at 3-3, then Terra Linda High grad Chris Delangis scored the winning run on a single by pinch hitter Skylar Lenihan. Bartram’s two-run homer in the eighth inning wrapped up the win for the Mariners.
Mendoza was 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Delangis and Redwood High grad Danil Wells were each 2-for-4 with a double.
The Mariners and NIners wrap up their season series on Friday in Kentfield.
Prep baseball
A six-run fourth inning powered Redwood High past Petaluma 8-1 in Thursday’s non-league contest in Larkspur. With a seven-run lead after four innings, the Giants (10-1) held off a pair of rallies by the Trojans, who scored two runs in both the fifth and seventh innings. Redwood is scheduled to host Vintage on Saturday.
Boys golf
Low medalist Theo Anderson shot a 4-under 32 at Peacock Gap to lead Marin Catholic past the Branson School, 184-206, on Thursday. Aria Saluja shot a 38 to pace the Bulls.
Boys lacrosse
Tam High edged the Sea Kings of Corona del Marin, 10-9, in Thursday’s non-league match. Corona del Mar (8-6) is ranked 30th in the state, while Tam (6-10) is ranked 77th.
Girls lacrosse
Marin Catholic defeated host Berkeley 17-5 on Wednesday. The Wildcats (10-3) are scheduled to host Davis on Monday.
Prep track
Ellie McCuskey-Hay of St. Ignatius and the Marin Waves Track Club set a personal best time of 58.05 seconds to win the girls 400 meter race on Wednesday in a dual meet with Sacred Heart Cathedral.
