Woman’s eyelid sliced off by doctor during plastic surgery

A woman has slammed plastic surgery doctors after they ‘sliced off a chunk of her eyelid’ during a procedure.

The woman, identified only by her surname, Liu, is a native of Bengbu City in China’s eastern Anhui Province.

She says she purchased the procedure in July last year, shortly after her wedding.

‘I had just got married and wanted to get a nice double eyelid surgery,’ she said.

She added: ‘They suggested a more comprehensive treatment – including a canthoplasty to lift the inner and outer corners of my eyes – would look even better.’

But the procedure went horribly wrong, leaving Liu with a severe infection that made all her eyelashes fall out.

‘My eyes were like a rotting clam. There was pus everywhere,’ Liu said.

When she recovered, she discovered she was also missing part of her lower left eyelid, which had apparently been sliced clean off during the reportedly botched canthoplasty.

Images show her left and right eyes appearing entirely different due to the missing chunk of skin and flesh, which medical doctors have told her will not grow back.

She said: ‘They removed my lower eyelid and it can’t grow back. That’s permanent harm.’

However Director Xie, of the cosmetic clinic which has not been named for legal reasons, has reportedly offered the woman just £2,200 despite a chunk of one of her eyelids clearly missing and doctors saying it will not grow back.

The clinic head says the operation was not a ‘failure’ and his angry client’s dissatisfaction is ‘subjective’.

Liu says she wants to seek further cosmetic treatment to correct the problem.

‘I want it fixed, even though some parts can’t be fixed. I want to try to improve my appearance even a little bit,’ she said.

She added: ‘We’ve talked about compensation many times already. They’re only willing to offer 20,000 RMB (£2,260) in damages.

‘But just the surgery alone to rectify what they’ve done will cost up to 30,000 RMB (£3,390) if I was to get it done in Bengbu, but there are no specialists here.

‘If I do it in Shanghai and have to pay for postoperative treatment, 20,000 RMB is nowhere near enough.’

Director Xie has refused to call her operation a ‘failure’, saying: ‘She’s just not satisfied with the results.’
