Someone turned Diane Abbott into every M&S canned cocktail and it’s glorious

The Labour MP was forced to apologise after she was caught red-handed on the overground sipping on a can of mojito.

We’ve all pulled out a tinny on the Tube believing no one’s watching – but we’re not all MPs.

Diane Abbott was forced to apologise after she was caught red-handed on the London Overground sipping on a can of M&S mojito yesterday.

While many have defended the Shadow Home Secretary for ‘enjoying life’ while boozing on the train, she did actually break the law on public transport drinking.

And as always, when an MP does something wrong the internet delivers.

Louis Staples decided to turn the politician into every M&S canned cocktail, and the result has been a big hit on Twitter.

Frankie Magpie found the threat glorious and wrote: ‘It’s sunny, and I’ve been to the garden centre, and I thought today couldn’t get any better. Then I came here.’

The Labour MP took to Twitter after the picture appeared online and said: ‘A photo of me drinking from a can of M&S mojito on the Overground has been circulated.

‘I’m sincerely sorry for drinking on TFL.’

And many rushed to support Abbot, with fellow Labourer  David Lammy replying: ‘Jah Rastafari! Sorry or what? Why was the rum not Jamaican?’

Labour MP Alex Sobel said: ‘I have never seen a sign saying you can’t drink on the London Overground! I didn’t know you couldn’t.’

Therapist and writer Philippa Perry said: ‘Oh mate. We’ve all done it. Anyway thanks for travelling on the tube like most people have to do.’

Dawn Foster hit out at the person snapping the shot and said: ‘If you are the “retired cop” who snitched on Diane Abbott, please get in touch so I can flush your head down the toilet for being a nerd.’

Mollie Goodfellow said: ‘Imagine being the absolute dweeb sobbing in Diane Abbott for drinking a can on the train.’

On June 1, 2008, drinking on public transport in London became illegal under the supervision of former London mayor Boris Johnson.

The alcohol ban affected the Tube, DLR, buses and tram services as well as stations.

You’re allowed to drink on the train.

Johnson said at the time: ‘I’m determined to improve the safety and security of public transport in London and create a better environment for the millions of Londoners who rely on it.’

You are also, of course, allowed to carry closed containers of alcohol.
