What £1,000,000 can get you in London compared to other parts of UK

The same sum will get you a whopping 10 bedrooms in Hull.

Almost half of all the homes currently for sale in London for £1,000,000 have just two bedrooms or less, data suggests.

One in 10 only have a single bedroom, including studio apartments, according to data from property website OnTheMarket.com.

When it comes to the rest of the country, only five per cent of homes for sale for between £900,000 and £1,100,000 have two bedrooms or less.

In London, just 41% of properties priced around the £1,000,000 mark have parking, with an extra eight per cent coming with a driveway and 71% having access to a garden.

Kensington and Chelsea is perhaps unsurprisingly the most expensive London borough, providing an average of only 1.7 bedrooms.

Trailing closely behind is Westminster, with an average of two.

Bexley and Sutton provide the best value for money, coming with an average of 4.5 bedrooms in exchange for £1,000,000.

Vikki Bennett, spokesperson for OnTheMarket.com, said: ‘Despite a £1,000,000 home being way out of reach for the vast majority of buyers, this hefty budget still won’t buy a good sized family home throughout much of London.

‘Nor does it guarantee the convenience of parking or the pleasure of a garden.

‘We also found that half of the homes currently for sale in London at this price are flats or apartments which underlines the difficulties facing families who aspire to own what they consider a “family-home” inside the capital.’

Barking and Dagenham is the best value London borough, providing an average of four bedrooms for £500,000.

The UK average for £500,000 is 3.7 bedrooms, excluding London.

Up in Liverpool, however, £1,000,000 will fetch you an apartment in the desirable Sefton Park area with three double bedrooms and three bathrooms, a private sun terrace and access to a swimming pool and gym.

In Leeds it will acquire an enviable six-bedroom family home complete with triple garage, balcony overlooking the rear garden, along with summer house, gazebo, cedar hardwood decking and hot tub, water feature and potting sheds.

You can get a four-bed detached house in Cardiff within the respectable Cardiff High School catchment area and a five-bedroom penthouse less than three-and-a-half miles from Edinburgh city centre boasting an underground triple garage and stunning waterfront views.

Just half-an-hour from central Glasgow you can snap up a five-bedroom villa, again with a triple garage, as well as a hot tub and cinema room.

In the Midlands £1,000,000 will buy you a ‘castle in the country’ in Tatenhill, Burton-On-Trent, restored to its glory days when the four-bedroom turreted property was owned by Lord Burton.

Further north in Manchester you can purchase a seven-bedroom detached house, while across Leeds in Hull the same money will net a whopping 10 bedrooms as well as a large indoor heated swimming pool.
