Girl, 15, killed by speeding car ‘racing another driver’ on wrong side of road
The driver initially got out of the vehicle buefore getting back behind the wheel and speeding off.
A teenage girl has been killed in front of four of her friends after being hit by a car which was speeding on the wrong side of the road.
The unnamed girl, 15, was trying to cross the road at around 2am this morning when she was hit by a black car which was speeding side-by-side with another.
Police Scotland said the driver of the car – possibly a VW Polo – initially got out of the vehicle, but then got back behind the wheel and drove off.
Emergency services were called out to the incident in Glenburn Road before the girl was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Despite efforts by doctors she died a short time later.
Police are now hunting the driver and want to find the passengers in the other car, which was seen driving beside it as if they were racing.
DI Allan Kelly of Paisley CID said: ‘We know that the car, a small hatchback, possibly a VW Polo, was damaged as a result of the collision, it had a cracked windscreen and bumper.
‘We also know that the black car was on the wrong side of the road and driving beside another car, as if racing each other, on Glenburn Road, so people may have seen these two cars either in that street or in surrounding streets either before or after.
‘I would appeal to the driver of the car to come forward to police and to the occupants of either vehicle involved.’
