Mall of America balcony throw victim Landen Hoffman leaves intensive care
Landen has recovered enough to be moved to an inpatient unit at a different hospital.
A boy hurled from a third floor balcony at one of America’s largest Malls has recovered enough to leave his intensive care hospital unit.
Landen Hoffman, 5, was moved to an inpatient physical rehab program at a different hospital as he continues his recovery, according to his family’s GoFundMe page.
Noah Hanneman, a spokesperson for Landen’s parent’s, wrote: ‘There is hard work ahead! And, our beautiful boy has endured much already, but he is strong and his spirit remains vibrant.’
Landen sustained severe injuries after was thrown three stories onto the mall’s floor in Bloomington, Minnesota on April 12.
He needed more than 15 medical procedures including ‘surgeries for two broken arms and a broken leg, removal of his spleen, procedures for fluid in his lungs and stomach, as well as for facial and skull fractures,’ according to his family.
Landen also had a stent placed in the veins in his liver because of complications.
He had been under constant treatment and monitoring in intensive care since the day he was thrown from the balcony by Emmanuel Aranda, 24, who was sentenced to 19 years in jail last month.

Aranda said he chose his Landen to be his victim at random after he was repeatedly rejected by women at the mall.
After he was thrown over a railing, Landen reportedly hit the floor with a sickening thud, witnesses said, and bystanders rushed frantically over to him to help the boy, who was laying ‘motionless…in a pool of blood,’ according to the Daily News.
The Hoffmans have remained relatively private about the condition of their son, giving updates every few weeks.
