Moment Christians and mediums clash in unholy village tea room row

Tensions flared when a group of Christians began chanting outside a spiritualist event in Cornwall.

This is the moment a group of Christians clashed with spiritualists attending a mediumship event.

The unholy row was sparked when Jo Brown, the owner of Mrs B’s Tearoom, organised the event with clairvoyant Deby Ould.

Around a dozen people attended the spiritualist event in St Keverne, Cornwall, but it was cut short when a group of Christians gathered outside.

Jo went out to confront the chanting Christians and started recording the group when they refused to leave.

She said: ‘The woman told me that what we were doing was totally wrong and dangerous.

‘I told her we weren’t doing any harm and said that they speak to gravestones and this was our way of contacting the people we have lost.

‘They started telling me I should speak to the vicar and preaching the bible.

‘In the end they did leave after I threatened to call the police.’

Jo, who has previously held an event without issue, described the confrontation as ‘intimidating and disruptive’.

She has complained to the Rector of the United Benefice of St Keverne.

Reverend Deirdre Mackrill, Assistant Curate of St Keverne Church, denied that the group was disruptive or intimidating.

She said that group had been having a prayer meet in the church but decided to head outside and start praying for the protection of the individuals attending the mediumship event in the tea room.

She added: ‘So many people know when you start to dabble in the occult, it can be really dangerous so we wanted to pray for their protection.’

‘Part of the way through, some of us felt called to go out and stand outside in the square.

‘We didn’t have placards and we weren’t shouting. We just stood there and prayed.

‘It clearly says in the bible – and we believe the bible is the word of God – it says do not try and make contact with the dead.

‘If any of you are mediums or spiritualists, don’t do it.

‘We did not disrupt the meeting, the woman came out to object which is fine.’

She said she stands by the action of the group that evening, and added: ‘This is what Christians try to do – as a priest, this is what I’m called to do, which is pray for people.

‘We just wanted to pray for people who might be in a vulnerable place.

‘It can lead to long-running, long-standing mental health problems, it is a dangerous place to venture to.’
