Novice hunter shoots her first deer dead at the age of 104
Florence Teeters decided to take up hunting to spend more time with her family - and was thrilled to shoot her first buck earlier this week
A novice hunter has just shot her first deer dead after developing a love of the past time at the age of 104.
Florence Teeters gunned harvested the buck on her own land in Phillips, Wisconsin, after going hunting with her son Bill Ball last season, and realizing how much she enjoyed it.
Recalling Florence’s first kill, Bill told NBC15: ‘I took mom out to the blind this year.
‘I had a nice chair for her and it was nice and warm.
‘A little after 4pm, a buck shows up about 30 yards away.
‘I tapped her on the knee and I pointed. She nodded and smiled and was real quiet. Then she took the shot!’
Bill said his mom was overcome with excitement at her success, and screamed: ‘I got a buck! I got a buck!.’
He said his mom decided to apply for her hunting license, granted this week, to spend more time with the hunters in her family.
Bill continued: ‘She wanted to go hunting because she wanted to experience the part of being out in the stand with the boys.
‘She likes the idea of being out in the woods.’
Florence is believed to be the oldest hunter in Wisconsin, with the state’s Department of Natural Resources spokesman Joe Paul hailing her enthusiasm.
He said: ‘She wanted to go hunting because she wanted to experience the part of being out in the stand with the boys.
‘She likes the idea of being out in the woods.’
Florence benefited from a law which means anyone born before 1973 is not required to take a hunting safety course before picking up their weapon.
The adventurous grandma also enjoys ziplining, and goes to her local mardi gras every year.
