Drug driver posed next to Lamborghini for Instagram photo days after killing dad-of-four

A callous drug driver posed next to a luxury sports car using the caption ‘flyingggg’ just days after mowing down a father-of-four as he crossed the road.
Rizwan Ali, 26, was driving at almost 60mph when he hit 65-year-old care home worker Colin Olawumi on August 18, 2018 in Bolton, Lancashire.
He had fraudulently hired a Range Rover Sport with his brother’s driving licence and travelled to a wedding where he got drugged up on cocaine and cannabis, a court heard.
Judge Graeme Smith criticised Ali for his initial efforts to fight the case and his attempts to shift the blame onto Mr Olawumi, traumatising the dead man’s family for 18 months.
Bolton Crown Court heard how the valet denied he had been speeding and claimed that ‘everyone does it’. He waited until the day the jury was to be sworn in for trial on March 2 before entering guilty pleas.
In their victim impact statements, Mr Olawumi’s family described their distress after seeing various pictures of Ali posing with fast cars throughout the court proceedings.
He posted a picture on his Instagram account next to a £280,000 Lamborghini Aventador with the caption ‘flyingggg!’ just days after the fatal crash.
During his sentencing at Bolton Crown Court, Judge Smith criticised Ali for the pictures, saying: ‘I have seen the photographs and videos posted to your Facebook and Instagram accounts since the accident, which show you in or next to various high-performance cars.
‘I can understand why Mr Olawumi’s family have been caused additional distress by this, and why they feel that the remorse you are now expressing is not sincere.
‘You clearly continue to have an interest in high-performance cars, and it was undoubtedly unwise in the circumstances to post these photographs and videos to public accounts.’
Ali, from Heaton, near Bradford, West Yorkshire, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous and careless driving and was jailed for 41 months. He was also handed a four year and eight month driving ban.
