‘Kind and caring’ girl, 11, dies after being hit by car while crossing road with friend

A ‘kind and caring’ young girl has died two days after being hit by a car while crossing the road with a friend in Greater Manchester.
Ruby Cropper, 11, was struck by a a Suzuki Alto at around 4.30pm on Monday while crossing a road near an Esso Petrol Station in Bury. The driver did not stop at the scene.
She suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital but despite medics’ best efforts, Ruby died today.
A man, 35, later made contact with police and was arrested. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
In an emotional tribute to Ruby, her ‘devastated’ mum and two dads said their ‘lives will never be the same again’.
They said: ‘As Ruby was such a kind and caring person and always helped others she has continued to do this in organ donation. Ruby’s legacy will live on and we have taken great comfort in this.
‘Our family would urge anyone in these tragic circumstances to follow in Ruby’s footsteps and be an organ donor.
‘We are all absolutely devastated and a part of us has died today too’.
Officers are appealing to the public to come forward with any information or footage of the incident to aid their enquiries.
Police Constable Phil Drummond said: ‘This is a desperately sad incident and our thoughts are with Ruby’s friends and family at this terrible and heart-breaking time. Our specialist officers are providing them with support.
‘It is important that we ensure that we establish the full circumstances of this incident, and therefore I am appealing to the public to provide us with any information they can to help us with our investigation’.
The officer also wants to hear from anyone who may have seen a blue Suzuki Alto travelling around the Whitefield and Radcliffe areas between 4.15-4.30pm.
