Coronavirus deaths exceed 100 for fifth day in row with 16,171 new cases
The UK is fighting to contain its second wave.
Another 150 people have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus, as the country battles to contain its second wave.
In the past 24 hours a further 16,171 tested positive for the bug, compared with 15,650 the previous day, bringing the official total number of cases to 705,428, according to Department of Health and Social Care figures.
Today is the fifth consecutive day where more than 100 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.
Separate figures by the UK’s statistics agencies say there have now been 57,690 deaths where coronavirus has been mentioned on the death certificate.
