Melania Trump ‘has no plans to divorce election loser Donald – yet’
Friends of the first lady claim she remains happily married to President Trump, for now
First Lady Melania Trump has no immediate plans to divorce her husband Donald after he lost the US presidential election, friends claim. Mrs Trump is said to have shown no signs of wanting to ditch President Trump, with two close friends convinced she will stay with him for at least the immediate future.
The first lady’s official spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham also lashed queries about an impending Trump divorce, telling The Washington Post: ‘This question is pathetic and exactly why people no longer trust the mainstream media. No legitimate journalist would ask this.’
Former White House aide Omorosa Manigault Newman last week claimed Mrs Trump was ‘counting the minutes’ until she could file for divorce from Trump. The first lady also raised eyebrows by linking arms with a US military man instead of her husband during a trip to Arlington Cemetery in Virginia last Tuesday.
President Trump and his wife made the trip for a Veterans’ Day memorial service, with onlookers pointing out that Mrs Trump had likely held onto the serviceman to keep her balance while walking over rain-soaked stone slabs in high heels.
Online bookmaker BetOnline.ag says they have received so many bets that Mrs Trump will dump the president by this time next year that a $10 bet on the divorce happening by November 3 2021 will now pay out just $26. That is down from the $65 potential payout for any bets placed on election day.
Meanwhile, President Trump’s disgraced ex fixer Michael Cohen has also claimed the marriage – the president’s third – will endure, because the first couple are far more similar than most people realize.
He said: ‘I don’t think Melania leaves Donald. She’s very willingly complicit in his schemes and holds his beliefs as her own. Those two deserve each other.’
Cohen, who was jailed for tax fraud and campaign finance violations, has previously been dismissed as a liar by President Trump after turning on him.
Mrs Trump is famously private, and has given little public indication of her thoughts and opinions since becoming first lady in January 2017.
Her marriage was rumored to have been plunged into a crisis in January 2018 after claims of a fling between President Trump and porn star Stormy Daniels re-emerged.
Trump denied claims of a 2006 one night-stand with Daniels after meeting her at a charity golf tournament, a year after he married Mrs Trump, and months after she’d given birth to their son Barron, now 14.
Mrs Trump made history by traveling to Trump’s January 2018 State of the Union speech separately from her husband. She was also rumored to have been spending nights alone at his Washington DC hotel.
But some friends insist the couple’s marriage has improved again since. They say Mrs Trump is her husband’s closest confidante, and that the couple enjoy the limited time they spend together.
