Carrie Johnson expecting second child with Boris after suffering miscarriage

They had their first child, Wilfred, in April last year.

Boris Johnson and wife Carrie are expecting another baby together, it has been revealed.

In a post on Instagram, Mrs Johnson, 33, said she had a miscarriage at the start of the year and feels ‘incredibly blessed to be pregnant again but I’ve also felt like a bag of nerves’.

The couple welcomed their first child, Wilfred, in April last year. He was born a month after the Prime Minister was treated in hospital for Covid 19.

Mrs Johnson shared details of the pregnancy and miscarriage on her social media account and encouraged others to openly talk about their fertility issues.

Her post, which was accompanied by a picture of a small pram, said: ‘At the beginning of the year, I had a miscarriage which left me heartbroken.

‘I feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant again but I’ve also felt like a bag of nerves.

‘Fertility issues can be really hard for many people, particularly when on platforms like Instagram it can look like everything is only ever going well.

‘I found it a real comfort to hear from people who had also experienced loss so I hope that in some very small way sharing this might help others too.’

Mrs Johnson hinted the baby was due before Christmas, saying they were ‘hoping for our rainbow baby’ for the festive period.

The couple have been together since 2018, when Mr Johnson was foreign secretary, and moved into Downing Street when he took over from Theresa May as PM in 2019.

After getting engaged in late 2019, they married on May 29, 2021 in a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral, attended by thirty guests.

Mr Johnson, 57, has previously been married twice before and has at least six children already.

The couple were last seen together in public attending England’s Euro 2020 semi final against Denmark.

Downing Street said the Prime Minister had been due to work this weekend from his official country residence Chequers in Buckinghamshire, although it is not known if his wife is with him.

The couple gave their first son the middle name Nicholas as a tribute to two NHS doctors, Dr Nick Price and Dr Nick Hart, who ‘saved Boris’ life’ after he was admitted to intensive care with Covid.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer sent congratulations to the expectant couple following Mrs Johnson’s announcement.

‘Congratulations to Carrie and Boris on the happy news that they’re expecting another child,’ said the Opposition leader.

‘I’m very sorry to hear of Carrie’s earlier miscarriage. I’m sure that her speaking out will be of comfort to others and make them feel less alone.

‘Every best wish to Carrie and Boris at this time.’
