A small private plane has crashed into a two-storey office building in Milan, killing all eight people on board.
The plane, which took off from Milan’s Linate Airport, was headed for the island of Sardinia, officials said. The crash occurred just outside a suburban metro station in San Donato Milanese.
Police said eight people died in the crash. They are thought to include the pilot, co-pilot and six passengers. According to reports, a boy was among those killed.
Milan Prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano said those on board were ‘all foreigners’ but only two have been identified, including the pilot who was Romanian. The second was a Romanian woman in her 60s.
Ms Siciliano told reporters at the scene that the plane was proceeding on its flight until ‘a certain point, then an anomaly appeared on the radar screen and it plunged’.
Neighbours reported hearing the sound of the single-engine aircraft hitting the building, which was empty at the time and being renovated.
