Man, 23, dies in hospital days after car crash which killed influencer girlfriend

He had been in hospital since the crash in the early hours of Sunday.

The boyfriend of an influencer killed in a horror crash has also now died after several days in hospital.

The man, who has not yet been named, was driving a car which collided with a taxi in the Queensway tunnel, Merseyside, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Passenger Paige Rice, 22, died shortly after the crash, with thousands paying tribute, including England star Jack Grealish.

Police have now confirmed a second person, believed to be aged 23, has died.

Paige’s boyfriend had been in a critical condition since the crash in the tunnel connecting Liverpool and Birkenhead, which took place at around 12.30am.

The taxi driver, a man in his 40s, also suffered serious injuries but his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Paige’s death lead to an outpouring of grief among her many friends and followers.

Her mum, Clare Rice, said previously that the makeup artist was visiting her boyfriend in Liverpool on the night she died.

Clare said Paige, from Solihull, West Midlands, was ‘a beautiful woman inside and out.’

She added: ‘Paige was just so full of life. She lived life to the full. She was a beautiful woman inside and out. Her smile would light up a room.

‘Paige worked incredibly hard and at the age of 22 had already done lots of jobs.

‘She started as a makeup artist when she was just 15 and was working selling cars and as a nail technician when she died.

‘Paige was incredibly popular and had so many friends. She loved the attention but not in an arrogant, bad way.

‘She loved dance and drama and as a young girl went to the Valentine Theatre School where she made lots of friends and their friendships continued to this day.

‘Paige left the dance school when she was a teenager but carried on her love for dancing on nights out. She was a real party girl.’

Paige had amassed a following of almost 19,000 people on her Instagram page, which was flooded with tributes after the news broke.

More than £30,000 has been raised since Paige’s death to help support her family and give her the ‘send of she deserves.’

Manchester City footballer Grealish was among those who donated, pledging £5,000.

Matrix Inspector Mark Worrell, from Merseyside Police, previously issued an appeal for anyone who might have witnesses the crash to come forward.

On Sunday he said: ‘Our thoughts go out to the family of the woman who died and those who were injured in this collision.

‘The incident is currently under investigation and I would ask anyone who saw anything prior to the collision which could assist our enquiries to get in touch.

‘It is believed that prior to entering the tunnel the Audi had been in collision with another vehicle on the Hunter Street roundabout. We are currently examining a number of lines of enquiry.’
