Pensioners ‘only allowed to shower every 10 days’ at care home
‘No one discusses your health or anything, you are just here,' inspectors were told.
A care home has been found inadequate after residents said they were only allowed to shower every ten days.
One resident at Moriah House in Carlton, near Nottingham, told CQC inspectors they had no help with washing and had to wear the same pyjamas all day.
‘No one discusses your health or anything, you are just here,’ inspectors were told.
The CQC report said nothing had been done to prevent vulnerable residents falling down an open stairwell, while staff were left to struggle without training in food hygiene, dementia, or infection control.
Care workers were seen not using PPE safely amid a ‘culture of blame’, with managers not rectifying mistakes when serious incidents happened.
Staff were heard telling residents they had to wait to use the bathroom, and one resident was upset about the way a staff member spoke to their relatives.
‘The manager doesn’t come to talk to me. I tell them I haven’t had any dinner and they just shrug it off,’ another resident told inspectors.
One resident said: ‘It is horrible, and I know I moan a lot but you’ve not much else to do except sit here and wish you could go home.’
Relatives said they often saw their loved ones wearing clothes belonging to other residents, who were also at risk of scalding themselves from hot water taps in their bedrooms.
MyCare, who run Moriah House, said the care home’s management team were replaced after the findings emerged.
A spokesperson said: ‘As a company we were saddened by the results of the recent inspection which was carried out back in June, It appears that the stresses of the recent pandemic had taken its toll on the service and this had resulted in the home not being presented in its best light.
‘A senior management team attended Moriah house and spoke to residents and staff and a full audit was completed, any issues identified were addressed and an action plan implemented.
‘The local authority attended the home within weeks of the CQC inspection and the results were positive.
‘The home continues to work in partnership with outside agencies and we are confident that as a home we are providing the best possible person-centred care to enable our residents to lead a happy and fulfilled life.’
