Revellers brave torrential rain to enjoy New Year’s Eve celebrations
Never in doubt, Newcastle and Liverpool.
The rain was absolutely hammering down across parts of the UK on New Year’s Eve – but it didn’t stop people from having a good time.
Despite the typically bleak winter weather conditions, the nation welcomed 2024 in true British style.
Revellers were pictured taking cover under umbrellas, ponchos, raincoats and anything they could get their hands on.
Newcastle and Liverpool in particular were battered by torrential downpours, though it didn’t seem to deter those who were out for the night.
Brave clubbers even covered their hair and make-up with bin bags in an attempt to stay dry.
But a bit of rain – even if said rain is torrential – is nowhere near enough to stop us from getting the drinks in and welcoming 2024 with friends and loved ones in our favourite bars, pubs and clubs.
And of course, revellers had to try and keep their hair and make-up intact, to be photo-ready for the inevitable countdown pictures and videos as the clock struck midnight.
It wasn’t just late-night drinkers who had to contend with the rubbish weather this New Year’s Eve.
While a number of firework displays, including spectacular shows in Edinburgh and London, went off without a hitch, at least one event had to be cancelled due to the pouring rain and high winds.
There will be plenty of people waking up with sore heads this morning after spending the night on the tiles – and we’re guessing a good number of those will consider taking part in Dry January as a response.
