Very angry Tube worker’s catalogue of petty revenges that could land him in jail

A disgruntled London Underground worker who wanted to ‘get back at people’ after being sacked now faces time in prison.

Lewis Kelly was given a suspended sentence last February for computer misuse offences – but he reoffended again within days.

Kelly, 28, had previously been convicted of seven computer misuse offences and one count of fraud by false representation – but between April and May 2023, he sent a colleague two Cadbury’s Fudge bars in an apparent homophobic slur.

He also hacked into colleagues’ email accounts and posted abuse on Reddit, as well as changing a female colleague’s preferred place of work to Cockfosters without her knowledge.

Kelly was suspended once TfL’s cyber team realised what was going on, and they reported him to British Transport Police.

A week later he went to Upton Park station and used his staff access to give himself a 75% discount on zones 1-9, which would have saved him £13,100 in a year.

Last February the judge noted that ‘there’s no personal gain, but it seems to have an element of revenge and revenge is not pleasant’ as they let him walk free.

But within days Kelly offended again by switching the phone number of the Waterloo control room for a Clapham branch of Subway.

The trick caused a deluge of calls with people trying to order sandwiches from puzzled London Underground staff.

Last November Kelly pleaded guilty to an unauthorised act in relation to a computer, the theft of three South Western Railway passes, and four counts of harassment against his colleagues.

He was due to be sentenced at Inner London crown court on Wednesday (January 10) but this was postponed until February 1 due to court delays.

Judge Rosina Cottage said Kelly, of Benson Avenue in East Ham, was in ‘significant jeopardy’ as she reminded him of his bail conditions.

After defence counsel Veronica Ramsden said her client was ‘desperate to know what’s wrong with him’, Judge Cottage hinted ‘it might be some immaturity in taking responsibility for taking some actions’.

Delaying the sentencing, she added: ‘I can understand some defendants want to find explanations other than that they just behaved very badly.’
