Prince Harry says King Charles’s cancer diagnosis will help ‘reunify’ the family
Prince Harry said he hopes King Charles’s cancer diagnosis can help bring him closer to his family.
Speaking to Good Morning America host Will Reeve, the Duke of Sussex said he hopes his father’s illness can help mend the pair’s relationship.
Harry- who is fifth in line to the throne – travelled to London for 26 hours last week to visit his dad after reports of his ill health.
He said when asked if the diagnosis can help reunify his family, Harry replied: ‘For sure. I see it on a day-to-day basis, the strength of the family unit coming together, and I think any illness brings families together.’
Harry flew over without his wife Meghan Markle and their children less than 24 hours after the announcement about His Majesty’s upcoming treatments was made to the nation by Buckingham Palace.
When asked how the visit was for him emotionally, he said: ‘I love my family and the fact I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend time with him I am grateful for.
He added he has further trips planned to see his family in the UK.
‘I have my own family, and my life in California is as it is, and I’ve got other trips planned which will take me through the UK and I will stop and see my family as much as I can,’ Harry said.
‘I love living in the US every single day, and I have thought about becoming a US citizen before but it is not a high priority for me right now.’
When asked how Archie and Lilibet are, Harry responded they are ‘good’ and ‘growing up fast’.
‘They’ve got an incredible sense of humour and they make us laugh and keep us grounded as most kids do, and I am very grateful to be a dad.’
It has been a busy week for the Sussexes, with a flurry of announcements – from a launch of their Sussex.com website to the Duchess signing a deal with Lemonada Media for a new podcast.
It has now been revealed that Harry will open up about his live in a new interview with host Will Reeve, which will air today.
The California-based couple have been spending the week in Whistler, in Canada,taking part in a variety of winter activities including bobsledding and skiing ahead of the Invictus Games.
There, the pair have been followed by a film crew, as a 15-second trailer shows.
This comes as Harry and Meghan issued a defiant statement, addressing criticism of their rebrand and for not consulting the Royal Family first.
A representative for the pair told The Mirror: ‘We have heard time and time again that certain opportunities are make or break for the couple.
‘They’re still here. They’re still working and pursuing what they believe in, despite constantly being challenged and criticised. This couple will not be broken.’
In footage released last night, Harry was shown sporting a white helmet as he speeds headfirst down an icy bobsled track.
Cowbells sounded as the royal completed his ride, reaching 99mph – albeit with a bumpy ending.
Taking off his helmet, Harry can be heard saying: ‘It was awesome.’
Meghan was the model partner, cheering on her husband as he headed for his second skeleton run of the day and bending down to take the best shot.
The Duchess of Sussex looked impressed as the prince climbed on the tiny slider and raced down head-first.
He can be heard telling people who had gathered at the slope: ‘I am going until the sun goes down.’
The prince founded the the sports event for wounded or sick service personnel and veterans after he served in Afghanistan.
Next year will be the first to feature winter sports, including the skeleton, skiing and wheelchair curling.
