Flat-hunters left feeling ‘suffocated’ by couple’s list of strict rules for tenants
They hate 'stinky food' but smoke in the flat...
Would you live in a smoke-filled flat where you’re not allowed to cook the food you love?
That’s what one set of would-be flat mates expects of anyone joining their Dalston household.
A two-bed flat in this sought-after area could be a dream, even if the price tag is £1,000 for a room.
You would be living a life of luxury with in the furnished and spacious room, with high ceilings, wooden floors and big windows.
But requirements are so stringent it left one person asking ‘why do I feel suffocated in my own home just reading this’, when they posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Writer Natty Kasambala shared a screenshot of the flat listing, highlighting a selection of particularly peculiar requirements for prospective renters.
Not only are other couples intolerable housemates for the existing couple living there, ‘overly fried dishes that stink the place up’ are also banned.
One X user said: ‘Hate when overly fried dishes block the dank ciggy smell in a flat.’
While many would pay a premium for south-facing windows that suck up precious sunlight, this job advert describes it as ‘annoyingly bright’.

But maybe you’ll survive the rays if you can fit your personal bathroom items in just a wooden box provided by these ‘minimalist’ hosts.
‘I hope this doesn’t sound too stringent’, the advert said.
‘We are trying to keep the flat clutter-free as this flat doesn’t have the storage space and everything is exposed.’
No mess allowed then, except for the cat hairs strewn around when the current resident catsits.
The flat listing left people incensed at the pickiness and contradictions of its authors.
An X user said: ‘Why do I feel like if my flannel or shampoo or whatever poked out the top of the box, they’d just throw it away while I was out and about, then act like it was my fault lmao.’
But one person saw the silver lining in being able to save yourself before it’s too late.
They said; ‘When I see things like this, I’m actually grateful for their transparency because there’s just *no way* I’m living with someone who is scared of a little smelly food.’
