ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany took part in the eclipse on Monday. They offered spectators a chance to view the phenomenon in their gardens and learn about the role astronomy played in society years ago.
"In the 18th and 19th Century, people were very connected to astronomy, because they went to bed earlier, the crops, the harvest cycles, were very much tied to what was going on in the heavens," Ten Broeck Mansion Exec. Dir. Kathryn Kosto explained. "So people were very aware of eclipses. We see a lot of it in literature and art in the 19th Century, so in some ways today, we're actually a little more detached than we were in the past. So we're excited to provide that perspective in our talks today."
The Ten Broeck Mansion also hosted groups of students from New York City who came to Albany to be closer to the path of totality.
