Former Arsenal star names 64-year-old manager who can solve all United's problems
Paul Merson believes that Carlo Ancelotti would be a perfect manager for Manchester United.
The Red Devils are expected to part company with Erik ten Hag following a disappointing 2023-24 season.
They are set to miss out on any form of European football as they are languishing in eighth in the Premier League standings.
Several names have been linked to replace Ten Hag at United, including Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Gareth Southgate.
But Paul Merson claims that Carlo Ancelotti would be an ideal candidate to solve the club’s problems.
He told Sky Sports: “I think they need Ancelotti.
“I know Ancelotti’s got another year left at Madrid, but if they go on to win the Champions League and I know it’s not a step forward, but you bring him in for a year.
“You get him in, you get him there for a year and he comes and he goes at the end of the season, ‘keep him, keep him, get rid of him, he’s a bad egg’.
“This bloke has worked with the best in the world. Watch his Real Madrid team, they’ve got superstars and they run around, that’s because of the manager.
“They need someone to come in and sort it out because at the moment Man United are a million miles off.”
Ancelotti is one of the top managers in the world, who has worked at some of the best clubs and lifted plenty of trophies.
The 64-year-old has done an excellent job since returning to Real Madrid in 2021.
He led the club to the La Liga and Champions League titles in his first campaign before leading them to Copa del Rey success last term.
Los Blancos also have had an outstanding 2023-24 season under Ancelotti so far as they have already clinched the league title and reached the Champion League final.
It would represent a huge coup if INEOS manage to convince the Italian to join United.
