Interview mit neuem Spielertrainer Easton Barnes

Geese: Hello Easton, we are very happy to announce you as our new player coach for the upcoming 2023 season. Could you tell us and the geese family a little bit more about yourself?

Easton: I’m happy to be a part of this club so thank you for having me. There’s not much to tell about myself outside of baseball. I’ve always enjoyed traveling and experiencing new things. Besides the game I work as a contractor and coach youth pitchers.

Geese: Can you give us a short description about your baseball career?

Easton: I have played professionally for the last 3 years in the states. I started my career after college during the Covid year which pushed me into the independent side of things. I’ve played from coast to coast and seen most all sides of the game there. The last two years of my career I signed with MLB partnered teams in the Pioneer league. After all that I can say I’m excited to experience baseball in another country.

Geese: What made you think about to go overseas and have you ever been to Europe before?

Easton: I’ve never been outside the states beyond Mexico so this is a new experience for me. I felt like I’d accomplished what I set out to do in the US, so the next thing I wanted to do was play abroad.

Geese: What do you know about Austria and the baseball scene in Europe?

Easton: To be quite honest I don’t know much about the baseball in Europe. I’ve heard some things from players I’ve met who went there but I’m open to the new experience.

Geese: What do you think will be the difference between European and US Baseball in your point of view?

Easton: I feel like baseball is baseball any way you shake it. I’d assume there’s a difference in the weight that’s placed on the game, being that there isn’t as much baseball being played/watched in Europe. I know the goal is to bring more attention to baseball in this side of the world so I’m happy to be a part of that.

Geese: What were your reasons to join the Geese this year?

Easton: After talking with Thomas I really felt like this was a good fit for me and the experience I wanted to have in Europe. I’m extremely thankful to be given the opportunity.

Geese: So far, what are your expectations and plans with the team?

Easton: I believe the only way to play any game right is to have fun, respect it, and try to win.

Geese: Can you tell us what the people, the players and the Club can expect from you this year- on the field, during the practice and offside the field?

Easton: I think the biggest thing they can expect from me is that I’ll uphold the clubs reputation to the best of my ability. By working hard and using what knowledge I’ve gained of the game to help out in all aspects. Off the field nothing will change.

Geese: Hallo Easton, wir freuen uns sehr, dich als unseren neuen Spielertrainer für die kommende Saison 2023 ankündigen zu können. Könntest du uns und der Geese Family ein wenig mehr über dich erzählen?

Easton: Ich freue mich, ein Teil dieses Clubs zu sein, also danke, dass ich dabei sein darf. Außerhalb des Baseballs gibt es nicht viel über mich zu erzählen. Ich habe es immer genossen zu reisen und neue Dinge zu erleben. Neben dem Spiel arbeite ich als Freelancer und trainiere Jugend-Pitcher.

Geese: Kannst du uns eine kurze Beschreibung deiner Baseball-Karriere geben?

Easton: Ich habe in den letzten 3 Jahren professionell in den USA gespielt. Ich habe meine Karriere nach dem College während des Corona-Jahres begonnen, das mich in die Selbständigkeit geführt hat. Ich habe von Küste zu Küste gespielt und dort fast alle Seiten des Spiels gesehen. In den letzten beiden Jahren meiner Karriere habe ich bei MLB-Partnerteams in der Pioneer League unterschrieben. Nach all dem kann ich sagen, dass ich mich darauf freue, Baseball in einem anderen Land zu erleben.

Geese: Was hat dich auf die Idee gebracht, nach Übersee zu gehen und warst du schon einmal in Europa?

Easton: Ich war noch nie außerhalb der Staaten, außer in Mexiko, also ist das eine neue Erfahrung für mich. Ich hatte das Gefühl, dass ich mein Ziel in den USA erreicht hatte, also wollte ich als nächstes im Ausland spielen.

Geese: Was weißt du über Österreich und die Baseball-Szene in Europa?

Easton: Um ganz ehrlich zu sein, weiß ich nicht viel über den Baseball in Europa. Ich habe ein paar Dinge von Spielern gehört, die ich getroffen habe, die dort waren, aber ich bin offen für neue Erfahrungen.

Geese: Worin besteht deiner Meinung nach der Unterschied zwischen europäischem und amerikanischem Baseball?

Easton: Ich denke, Baseball ist Baseball, egal wie man es dreht und wendet. Ich nehme an, dass es einen Unterschied in der Bedeutung gibt, die dem Spiel beigemessen wird, da in Europa nicht so viel Baseball gespielt/gesehen wird. Ich weiß, dass es das Ziel ist, Baseball im Rest der Welt mehr Aufmerksamkeit zu verschaffen, also bin ich froh, ein Teil davon zu sein.

Geese: Was waren deine Gründe, dich den Geese dieses Jahr anzuschließen?

Easton: Nachdem ich mit Thomas gesprochen hatte, hatte ich das Gefühl, dass das Team gut zu mir passt und ich die Erfahrung in Europa machen wollte. Ich bin sehr dankbar, dass ich diese Möglichkeit bekommen habe.

Geese: Welche Erwartungen und Pläne hast du für das Team?

Easton: Ich glaube, der einzige Weg, ein Spiel richtig zu spielen, ist, Spaß zu haben, es zu respektieren und zu versuchen, zu gewinnen.

Geese: Kannst du uns sagen, was die Leute, die Spieler und der Club dieses Jahr von dir erwarten können – auf dem Feld, während des Trainings und abseits des Feldes?

Easton: Ich denke, das Wichtigste, was ihr von mir erwarten könnt, ist, dass ich den Ruf des Clubs so gut wie möglich aufrechterhalten werde. Ich werde hart arbeiten und mein Wissen über das Spiel einsetzen, um in allen Bereichen zu helfen. Abseits des Spielfeldes wird sich nichts ändern.
