Caleb Williams Started Planning For The NFL At WHAT Age!?
Most young athletes don’t start thinking about playing a sport professionally until at least the end of high school. By that point, they’ve gotten an idea of how good they are based on if they’ve dominated that level of competition. Then they think about going to college, hopefully, one with a strong reputation for getting young men to the pros. This is true for football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and others. Sometimes, the dreams start a bit earlier. In the case of Caleb Williams, it got borderline insane.
It was evident the Washington D.C. native was gifted from the moment he became a starting quarterback in high school. He won a championship, became Player of the Year, and used that to catapult himself to a major program at Oklahoma where he became an instant star as a freshman. Some people will think this was born of Williams’ natural talents. People don’t understand the amount of work he’d put in by that point and for how long. Dan Brugler of The Athletic revealed the details in his immense 2024 draft guide.
He’d spent a literal decade preparing for that opportunity.
“Williams originally played running back and linebacker at the Pop Warner level and often played up several levels because of his athleticism and physicality (earned the nickname “Bobby Boucher” after Adam Sandler’s character in The Waterboy). He started dabbling with the idea of playing quarterback in fourth grade and made the move in fifth grade. At age 10, Williams and his father created “The Plan” and laid out an aggressive training regimen to put him on the path to the NFL, including sessions with sports psychologists, specialized diets and 5:30 a.m. workouts at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, Md. He also trained with Mark McCain and Russell Thomas, who became business partners with Carl (they co-own AR Capitol Region training center and are part of the family’s inner circle).”
Caleb Williams has been on a mission for a long time.
Most kids at 10 years old are only thinking about video games, homework, and what they want to do with friends on the weekends. Almost none of them are committing themselves to a level of work that even many high school and college athletes don’t approach. This would explain why the young quarterback has managed to handle the incredible amount of hype and media attention over the past three years. He’d been preparing for it since before he could drive. No wonder he made such a strong impression on the Chicago Bears in their meetings.
Spending years with sports psychologists prepared him mentally for the trials of becoming a professional. Caleb Williams was far ahead of the curve before everybody else. It also shows how dedicated he is to realizing his dream. He wants to be one of the best quarterbacks to ever play. That has been his mission since childhood. Every step he’s taken has met with success. That wasn’t given to him. It was earned. If Bears fans are looking for a reason to believe this young man is legit, this story should do it.
