Caleb Williams Playfully Trolls Bears Fans With Recent Tweet

Caleb Williams is not your old-school type of quarterback. This isn’t the Peyton Manning or Tom Brady type who is all business and has zero interest in social media or media in general. A new generation of quarterbacks is coming to the fold. You’re already seeing it with Patrick Mahomes, who has a regular presence on Twitter (X). He isn’t the only one. The USC star is already known to keep a close eye on social media, using it to stay updated on current events, particularly those involving himself or his team. Another thing to remember about Williams is he’s smart.

Don’t be fooled by this persona that he’s another dumb jock only interested in throwing a football. This guy pays attention to the same information streams as fans do. It isn’t a secret everybody expects Williams to go #1 overall to the Chicago Bears on Thursday. The bigger mystery is who they might take with the #9 pick. Based on the opinion of top draft experts, the overwhelming favorite is Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze. Everybody knows this, including Williams. He decided to have some fun with it.

Playing with Bears fans’ emotions is always dangerous, but this is admittedly hilarious. It was made even better when Odunze responded to the tweet a short time later.

Multiple insider notes over the past couple of weeks indicate as much. After selecting the quarterback at #1, the widespread belief is Chicago will take the best offensive player on their board if they don’t trade down from #9. If things unfold as expected through the first eight picks, there is a strong chance Odunze will be that player. Many experts believe this class’s top three wide receivers are among the best prospects in the entire draft. Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU’s Malik Nabers are favorites to go in the top six. Presuming Tennessee goes offensive line and Atlanta goes defense as projected, Odunze will be there.

Poles has made it clear he has no fear of only going through this draft with four picks. The Bears have nine next year, including three in the first two rounds. This draft class isn’t overly deep. It might be best to get two blue-chip talents at the top and ride the rest of the weekend out. Selecting Odunze makes logical sense. Keenan Allen turns 32 this year and is in the final year of his contract. If he leaves next off-season, the Bears need somebody to have opposite D.J. Moore for Williams to throw to. Odunze would be a perfect choice.
