Former player claims Spurs can challenge for PL title next season – on one condition
William Gallas has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur can challenge for the Premier League title next season as long as they bulk up their squad in the upcoming transfer window.i
Ahead of the North London derby, Ange Postecoglou made no secret of the fact that he wants to see his side competing for the title next season, suggesting that the clash against Arsenal would be a test of how far away the Lilywhites are from one of the best sides in the division (Football.London).
However, on the evidence of the home side’s performance on Sunday, one would feel that they still have some way to go before they can go toe-to-toe with the very top sides.
While Spurs controlled proceedings for much of the game, they once again suffered lapses of concentration at the back, with Arsenal making them pay.
Tottenham need to improve squad this summer
Gallas believes that while the North Londoners have plenty of quality in their starting eleven, they would need to address the depth of quality in the Tottenham first-team squad if they want to challenge next season.
The former Spurs and Arsenal centre-back told The Mirror: “I think everything is possible at Tottenham next season. But if you want to have a team that is capable of fighting for the Premier League title, then you need to look at the depth of your squad. Tottenham will need to bring in more players if they want to challenge for the title. They will need reinforcements.
“If you look at the teams fighting for the title this season, their squads are stronger than Tottenham’s. I think the fans can dream under the management of Postecoglou.”

There is no doubt that we do need to bulk up the squad in order to be able to compete on multiple fronts next season and finally look to add to the silverware cabinet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, we would also need to upgrade our first eleven in a couple of areas, including in midfield and upfront. It could also be argued that James Maddison also needs more competition for his place in the side, with the England international still guaranteed a place in the side despite his poor form.
