A’s make no trades at deadline, ‘happy’ to have Familia
The A’s didn’t pull off any trades before Tuesday’s 1 p.m. deadline and will resume their playoff pursuit with the roster in its current shape.
The A’s acquired reliever Jeurys Familia from the Mets on July 21, and manager Bob Melvin said Monday, “We’ve already had a big addition that we’re really happy about, Familia, and he’s already been instrumental in three wins.”
The team’s biggest question is the rotation, and no improvements were made. The market was relatively thin, and the A’s were just as interested in adding bullpen depth to further shorten games for starters.
The A’s will continue to monitor the pitching market in August when players can be traded if they clear waivers.
